History

The pioneers of Brunello

Pinino’s history finds its roots in 1874, when the lawyer Tito Costanti, a pioneer in the promotion of Brunello, purchased the property, which has had a pivotal role in the Brunello history, being one of the historical cellars of the Consortium. Indeed, back in 1950, it was one of the first names listed in the register of Brunello producers, as well as being one of the founders themselves. Throughout the years, the property has experienced many changes of ownership, each one aimed to preserve and enhance Montalcino winemaking excellence.

The advent of the Ferragamo property

Today, this tradition is carried on by Ferruccio Ferragamo’s family, the style and strategy set by Salvatore Ferragamo’s guidance. This marks a substantial turning point for the estate, a winning combination between the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG tradition and prestige and the sustainable approach that is a hallmark of Il Borro Toscana. The purchase of the property in Montalcino it’s part of the Ferragamo’s family vision of expanding their winemaking activity in one of the worldwide most appreciated denominations, a symbol of deeply rooted enological excellence.

Pinino’s purchase has been, for my family and me, an extraordinary opportunity to preserve and promote a tradition of winemaking excellence in a world-class area. The style we’re giving to the wines at Pinino aims to show the elegance and complexity of Sangiovese, with full respect for its essence and a particular attention to everything that makes this grape variety so special. We want each sip to tell of this land, praising its purity and transparency.

Vintage 2020

The 2020 vintage of its Brunello di Montalcino DOCG marks a turning point for Pinino, with the beginning of a new chapter following the purchase from Il Borro. With a renewed approach, the production is more focused than ever on excellence, thanks to a scrupulous grape selection and a meticulous attention to the enhancement of the unique terroir of Montalcino. Pinino’s new style passes through a label restyling, that now feature a big pine cone in the centre. Symbol of fertility, growth and prosperity, it also represents resilience and a connection with Nature, all values deeply embedded in the company philosophy. With this new image and representative style, while embracing its history, Pinino looks to the future.
