Pinino's history

Pinino’s history finds its roots in 1874, when the lawyer Tito Costanti, a pioneer in the promotion of Brunello, purchased the property, which has had a pivotal role in the Brunello history, being one of the historical cellars of the Consortium. Indeed, back in 1950, it was one of the first names listed in the register of Brunello producers, as well as being one of the founders themselves. Throughout the years, the property has experienced many changes of ownership, each one aimed to preserve and enhance Montalcino winemaking excellence. Today, this tradition is carried on by Ferruccio Ferragamo’s family, the style and strategy set by Salvatore Ferragamo’s guidance.

Harvest and production

The estate

Pinino estate covers a total of 21 hectares, of which 16,24 are vineyards, with historical vines more than 40-year-old and more recent ones dating from 2000 onwards. The vineyards around the historical seat of the estate are located north, in the area of Montosoli, consistently regarded as one of the best for Brunello. South-east facing, they are characterised by a stony soil, predominantly composed of marl and limestone. The unique continental micro-climate and the favourable characteristics of the soil result in full-bodied wines with good acidity, elegant and fruity. The vineyards in Canchi, located north-east with south-east exposure, feature an alternation of stony soils of Eocene origin, marl and limestone with looser sandy and clayish soils. The particularly mild climate allows for a slow and good progressive maturation of Sangiovese Grosso.

The Wines of Montalcino

authentic expression of terroir

Pinino’s production philosophy is based on two pillars: on one hand, the selection of high quality grapes thanks to a careful vineyard management and rigorous fruit selection on the plant, on the other an efficient cellar management. 2020’s vintage of Pinino’s Brunello di Montalcino marks a real breakthrough compared to previous years. The production was totally geared toward excellence, removing every part that didn’t meet the highest quality standards. Only the wine aged in the best casks and barriques has been selected for the 2020 blend, thus guaranteeing not only an extreme quality, but also an authentic expression of Montalcino terroirs.

Sustainability

A concrete commitment to our Earth

The respect for the environment lies at the centre of Il Borro philosophy, pioneer in organic and regenerative agriculture. The same sustainable approach has informed the guidelines of the new winemaking management at Pinino, with its own characteristic way of living, observe and respect the earth. The aim is to help the land self-regeneration, preserving its fertility and restoring the right balance between humani mpact and nature. Our commitment starts from a sustainable vineyards management that takes the form of environmentally friendly practices to protect biodiversity and improve soil health, thus guaranteeing the wines quality, such as the use of green manure among the rows, sexual confusion to fight parasites and organic manure, disregarding all chemical herbicides
